02/2016 Drilling of pipes with our Pneumatic Magnetic Core Drill

Task:

Our customer was looking for a special solution for drilling radial and rectangular holes of dia. 1 1/2″ (dia. 38 mm) of steel pipes (St-52) with a minimum pipe diameter of 150 mm. The challenge was to find an individual solution offering the additional opportunity  to drill bigger pipe diameters  with minimum effort as well. The machine should not be electrically driven and not hand-held. But it should be appropriate for mobile application.

Solution

As an individual solution SPITZNAS used a Pneumatic Magnet Core Drill based on type 2 1330 0010, a clamp for pipes type 2 1330 8500 and a HSS-plus-core drill bit type 9 2529 0270.

Use

1. Mount the clamp
2. Fix the HSS-Plus-drill bit
3. Connect to the compressed air supply
4. Position the core drill on the clamp
5. Activate the magnet
6. Actuate the machine and start drilling (use water cooling)

Benefit

• Drilling up to Ø 2“ (52 mm) in steel, cast iron or plastic
• Likewise drilling laterally and overhead is possible
• Clamp can be used for pipes from dia. 6“ (150 mm)
• Magnet remains active, even if the compressed air is disconnected
• Safe: Drilling is possible only when magnet is active
• ATEX approval
